Coagulant

Development and commercialization of coagulants and sorbents for water purification with various levels of pollution

Client: Industrial enterprises, wastewater treatment plants, municipal water utilities.
Information: Biopolymer-based sorbent for industrial wastewater treatment.

SUMMARY: Development and commercialization of coagulants and sorbents for water treatment with varying levels of contamination. Project company: Aquapolis-NN LLC, founded in 2015. The project is being implemented at Technopark Sarov JSC.

PRODUCT/TECHNOLOGY

Problem:

Water purification from metal ions and other harmful impurities, binding and removal of protein components, treatment of industrial and domestic wastewater, oil-containing wastewater from industrial enterprises, and car washes. Environmentally friendly and completely non-toxic when using flocculants in water treatment processes.

Solution: Biopolymer-based sorbent for industrial wastewater treatment.

The use of a combination of natural polysaccharides (chitosan + starch) in the product allows for the production of a sorbent with a unique combination of properties:

High purity
High productivity/efficiency
Environmentally friendly waste
Low cost

BUSINESS MODEL:

Consulting for the construction and modernization of wastewater treatment facilities
Providing large engineering companies with licensing rights for technologies for producing coagulants and flocculants for use in large industrial and mining facilities and for water treatment in municipal water utilities
Supply of coagulants, flocculants, and sorbents for the treatment of municipal wastewater and industrial wastewater (metallurgical, chemical, agricultural, and pulp and paper industries)
Supply of defoamers for individual industries (chemical and cosmetic industries)
Supply of raw materials for dehydration in paper production

MARKET: Industrial enterprises, wastewater treatment facilities, Municipal water utilities.

2015: Industrial wastewater treatment chemical market – $5.2 billion

2020: Industrial wastewater treatment chemical market – $7 billion (due to an average annual growth rate of 5.1%)

Ensuring clean municipal water supply wastewater currently accounts for 35% of the chemical reagent market – $2.8 billion (2015).

CURRENT STATUS: Completion of R&D for chitosan-based base materials, laboratory samples obtained.

First stage funded.
